VOLUNTEERING AT THE VILLAGE IN HOWARD

Office

• 2-hour shifts,10am-2pm M-F, 2 to 3 times/month (requires basic computer skills and accurate phone call message-taking),
  
• Greet visitors and answer questions from the public,
  
• Assist with mailings, filing, copying and other office-related duties
  
• Participate in monthly office volunteer meetings.

Transportation

• Requires no DUI’s, no felony convictions, and no more than 3 insurance points (license and insurance are rechecked after their renewal),
  
• You may receive up to 1-3 requests per month via email,
  
• You are free to accept or decline any requests,
  
• Your insurance coverage is primary. TVIH insurance is secondary,
  
• Maryland has a Good Samaritan Law (your training as a volunteer will cover this).

Circle of Care

• Support to a member recovering from injury, surgery, or hospitalization,
  
• Provide transportation, friendly visits, simple meals from grocery store, light cleaning, take out trash & recycling, get the mail, and similar household assistance (note: this is not a replacement for nurse’s aide services),
  
• Provide morale support, but will not provide medical advice or assistance.

Concierge-like Services

• Pick up groceries, run errands.
• Walk or feed pets.
• Minor home repairs such as changing light bulbs to fixing a light switch.
• Tasks around the house like organizing.

• Publicity

  • Newsletter, advertising, and presentations.
    
    

• Membership

  • Maintain contact with members, manage member database, coordinate with Communication and Outreach committee on recruiting members.
    

• Finance

  • Budget status reports, manage financial records and bank accounts.
    
    

• Fundraising

  • Help with partnerships, sponsorships, grant-writing, and events.
    

• PODs

  • Groups of 6-12 members who meet regularly to know and support each other: Geographical or neighborhoods; and specific Interest groups.
    
    

• Programs

  • Plans and manages events for members and public. And, TVIH Healthy Aging Work Group, collaborates with Howard County Office on Aging ,Howard County General Hospital, Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, and the Horizon Foundation.

• Technical Support / IT
  • Identify hardware & software needs & upgrades; install printers, routers, etc.

  • Revise and maintain website, create, and upload documents.
