To celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2024 and in keeping with the theme of β€œsharing personal experiences of TVIH friends”, we will hear four members telling us when and where they met their wives/partners for the first time.

The speakers will be John O'Dea, Steve Holbrook, Jim MacDonald, and Jim Sanders.
They will bring their wedding photos to share.

Members from the audience are welcome to share their own valentine stories and wedding photos. Both singles and married members are welcome to attend this fun event.

Valentine’s cookies will be served.

From Jim MacDonald β€οΈ

Why I should not have met my wife.

Looking for Chris and Kathy, finding Irene.

First date and goodbye forever.

Letters from afar plus those tapes.

Two weeks in the States.  Is this guy for real?

Not sure if this going to work out.

From Jim Sanders β€οΈ

We met when we were camp counselors at a summer camp in Maine. She led the arts and crafts activity. I led camping and survival skills. She was older- an elementary school teacher. I was still in school- a junior in college. She had a degree in English literature. I was studying history and philosophy. We started talking during the walk back from the summer picnic. It got dark. We got lost. Forty nine years later we are still finding each other.

We will share how we met in Hawaii on a blind date. Some of our first dates. Share some of our memorable wedding renewal moments.

From John O'Dea  β€οΈ

When John & Mary O’Dea first met:

It was Feb. 13, 1970 (Friday the 13th!!), the day before Valentines Day.

We were both living in Cambridge Ma, and there was a weekly β€œBeer Bash” every Friday. I had met Mary’s roommate Madge previously. Madge brought Mary to the party, but she had her eye on some other guy. So she ditched us after introducing us. Well, I asked Mary out on a first date, Sunday 2/15. The rest is history. Last summer, on Aug 25, we celebrated our 50th anniversary!

The photo is from the late 1970’s. Who were those young kids with the dark hair??

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Valentine’s Day programs in the past were popular. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the stories. The speakers told us where they met their wives: in a shoe store, in a bar, at a job interview, at a football game, in a classroom for new employees, at a dance, carpooling during a long distance trip, and while lost on a country road to a rock concert.
