HostPete Brunner
Today's topicProperty Tax Assessment

Description: As promised, Pete Brunner will return to Good Morning Howard and share tips on how to read and understand Howard County property tax assessments. Pete will walk us through reviewing the data and addressing possible discrepancies for the tax notices.

The state reassesses houses every three years. Staff assigned are overworked and mistakes are common. The back of the tax notice has instructions on how to appeal and how to get your worksheet. People can go to the state courthouse in Ellicott City and get the worksheet anytime. Filing an appeal does not obligate you to follow through.

By some measures Howard County real estate taxes are the highest in the state; and that even with a 5 percent annual cap over a period of 25 years your real estate taxes will increase twice as fast as your pension COLA. So, it is important to make sure you are not overpaying.

Come to join us for our “Good Morning, Howard!”  zoom group.  We will be following the new schedule as listed below:

Wednesday at 9:00 AM

Our goal is to provide Howard County residents an opportunity to come together in a relaxed atmosphere, to meet with others, and to participate in the discussion/activities of Health and Wellness. Our content may include using technology to connect with family and friends, gardening, exercise, music, movies, jokes, popular websites, and healthy diet.

Participation is easy because driving is not required. This social program is for TVIH members and older adults from Howard County.

Volunteers (TVIH members) will take turns to serve as the hosts of the GMH zoom meetings. The hosts will greet the participants, make introductions, and give the feedback/suggestions back to the membership committee.

Most people will join by using their computer, tablet or smartphone. To join, you need a zoom meeting link. The link will be emailed to you after you register.

To Join Zoom Meeting by using a smartphone, dial 1-929-205-6099. You will be prompted to enter the meeting ID and the password.  If you are prompted to enter a personal ID, simply press the # sign.

The person using a phone can hear everyone and can talk.  He/she cannot be seen on other people’s screens.

Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
