About this event

Session I

This is a live, outside event!

Many people like Cabernet Sauvignon. Some refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the King of the red grapes. It is a common technique for winemakers to make a blend with other grape varieties. There are still many straight 100% Cabernet Sauvignons on the market, but there are also many blends. We will explore US law and California law requiring a certain percentage of a varietal grape to be in the wine in order to call the wine by a varietal name.

A common blend throughout the world is a Bordeaux blend involving Cabernet Sauvignon along with one or more of the following varieties: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Blends can also reflect a wine region. One of the Cab blends that we will taste is from Portugal, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional. In another blend that we will taste, Cabernet Sauvignon is secondary and Merlot is primary. This French Bordeaux blend is from the right Bank of the Gironde Estuary.

In this Teach & Taste, you will discover many styles of different blends of Cabernet Sauvignon
