About this event
Hosts: Mark Toohey and Joy Cheung
Guest: Andre Lingham, retired police officer from the Howard County Police Department
Topic: Money Fraud Prevention
Seniors are primary targets of widespread fraud and scams because they have retirement savings, are generous and more trusting. After seniors discover that they have lost money to scammers, they are less likely to report the scams due to shame.
We often receive telephone calls, emails, text messages, and fake impersonations from strangers or fake businesses, asking for emergency money, offering loans, or asking personal information to receive a big prize.
In this educational podcast, our guest Andre Lingham, a 33 year veteran of the Howard County Sheriff's and Police Departments, will teach us how to spot the different kinds of frauds and scams, how to protect ourselves, and how to report fraud to authorities. We will also learn how scammers use artificial intelligence to trick us to give them money.
