We met when we were camp counselors at a summer camp in Maine. She led the arts and crafts activity. I led camping and survival skills. She was older- an elementary school teacher. I was still in school- a junior in college. She had a degree in English literature. I was studying history and philosophy. We started talking during the walk back from the summer picnic. It got dark. We got lost. Forty nine years later we are still finding each other.

From John O'Dea β€οΈ
When John & Mary OβDea first met:
It was Feb. 13, 1970 (Friday the 13th!!), the day before Valentines Day.
We were both living in Cambridge Ma, and there was a weekly βBeer Bashβ every Friday. I had met Maryβs roommate Madge previously. Madge brought Mary to the party, but she had her eye on some other guy. So she ditched us after introducing us. Well, I asked Mary out on a first date, Sunday 2/15. The rest is history. Last summer, on Aug 25, we celebrated our 50th anniversary!
The photo is from the late 1970βs. Who were those young kids with the dark hair??

The Valentineβs Day programs in the past were popular. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the stories. The speakers told us where they met their wives: in a shoe store, in a bar, at a job interview, at a football game, in a classroom for new employees, at a dance, carpooling during a long distance trip, and while lost on a country road to a rock concert.
