Today's topic: Alaska Earthquake in 1964

On March 27, 1964, Bob, his  wife, Rochelle, their newborn son, Eric, and their cat, McKinley, experienced the Good Friday earthquake in south central Alaska, near Anchorage.  At about 5:37PM, local time, the earth shook for up to 5 minutes, causing flooding, avalanches, bridge, building, road, and power failures, injury and death.  It was felt over 400,000 square miles.  Later evaluation estimated an intensity of 9.2 on the Richter scale, possibly the 2d most powerful quake in recorded history.

Bob plans to talk about his personal involvement, observations, and lessons learned. The photo shows the obvious damage done in just a few minutes.  With a known fatality rate of less than 150 souls, we were all very lucky.

Come to join us for our new “Good Morning, Howard!”  zoom group.  We will be following the new schedule as listed below:

Monday & Wednesday at 9:00 AM

Our goal is to provide Howard County residents an opportunity to come together in a relaxed atmosphere, to meet with others, and to participate in the discussion/activities of Health and Wellness. Our content may include using technology to connect with family and friends, gardening, exercise, music, movies, jokes, popular websites, and healthy diet.

Participation is easy because driving is not required. This social program is for TVIH members and older adults from Howard County. This program was popular in August and is continuing in September.

Volunteers (TVIH members) will take turns to serve as the hosts of the GMH zoom meetings. The hosts will greet the participants, make introductions, and give the feedback/suggestions back to the membership committee.

Most people will join by using their computer, tablet or smartphone. To join, you need a zoom meeting link. The link will be emailed to you after you register.

To Join Zoom Meeting by using a smartphone, dial 1-929-205-6099. You will be prompted to enter the meeting ID and the password.  If you are prompted to enter a personal ID, simply press the # sign.

The person using a phone can hear everyone and can talk.  He/she cannot be seen on other people’s screens.
